This role will support the IT business projects and transformation programmes:

• delivering new IT services, exploiting Cloud and infrastructure technologies
• migrating applications to IaaS / PaaS platforms on internal and external cloud
• driving a greater utilization of virtualisation & lower cost storage
• migrating away from non-strategic technology platforms
• optimising data backup and retention policies

Infrastructure Architecture’s broader focus is to:

• Investigate new infrastructure technologies to meet business requirements
• Provide technical governance over the Products through the Technical Reference Model (TRM)
• Provide service governance of both existing and new technical non-functional service definitions maintained within an Infrastructure Service Catalogue
• Write and review Infrastructure Architecture Designs, approved by the Infrastructure Review Board
• Manage relationships across IT Architecture, IT Infrastructure Delivery and Application Development team areas on an on-going basis

The role focuses on both Architecture:

• Determine business requirement and influence solution towards Infrastructure future state model
• Gauge strategic impact to business function, impacted upstream and downstream services and subsequent technology footprint
• Ensure logical design contributes to technology objectives
• Examine potential demise opportunities and propose deployment options
• Consider service placement requirements

And Design:

• Delivering end to end technical infrastructure designs, ensuring Non-Functional Requirements are realised and validated
• Verify impact to adjacent services/systems and Validate deployment and support model
• Qualify technical acceptance of all components
• Review design and gain approval via the Cloud Infrastructure Review Board
• Optimise commercials and approval

Skills:Have a system engineering background and the ability to compare and contrast different solutions to meet a business requirement. Provide technical thought leadership in evaluation of new technologies to meet business requirements and influence key stakeholders leading to adoption. Have in-depth conceptual functional and non-functional knowledge of

• Cloud technologies (Google GCP or Amazon AWS)
• Container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)
• Databases (Oracle RAC, PostgreSQL, MongoDB)
• Automation tools (Terraform, Ansible, Puppet)
• Networking
• Middleware
• Server Operating systems internals, benchmarking and performance tuning
• Infrastructure as Code
