Job description: Legal and Policy OfficerCropLife InternationalBrussels, BelgiumReporting Line: Vice President, Legal and Vice President, International TradeCropLife International is seeking a junior Legal and Policy Officer, with at least three years of legal or policy experience, ideally in Agriculture, Food, Trade, or other relevant sectors. The candidate should possess a good understanding of the relevant issues to provide the relevant support.Reporting to the Vice President of Legal and Vice President of Trade Policy, the Legal and Policy Officer will work closely with Legal, Trade, and Advocacy teams to ensure that CropLife International’s ambitions on meeting legal requirements and ensuring proper follow-up of the trade policy are delivered to the highest standards.About CropLife InternationalCropLife International’s vision and purpose is to advance innovation in agriculture for a sustainable future by playing a leading role in enabling sustainable food systems.Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor developments in trade law and policy, staying abreast of changes and trends;
  • Monitor and assist in the participation of meetings and negotiations at the WTO;
  • Prepare compelling position papers and presentations on various legal or trade-related topics;
  • Provide direct assistance to key decision-makers, including Vice Presidents, offering crucial insights and analysis;
  • Assist in managing files related to the legal and advocacy committees, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives;
  • Coordinate research and advocacy work with other departments, including Public Affairs and Communications;
  • Keep track of developments in other relevant international fora, such as the Convention on Biological Diversity, providing valuable context for decision-making.

Required Education and Work Experience

  • Educational Background: Master’s Degree in Law;
  • Professional Experience: minimum of 3 years in International Law and/or Policy, with a focus on Trade Law and Policy.

Required Competencies

  • Strong writing skills with a keen eye for detail and the ability to craft concise summaries;
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment, fostering collaboration and innovation with a keen interest in agriculture and/or biotechnology, or other regulated sectors;
  • Excellent presentation skills to effectively communicate complex ideas and proposals;
  • Self-starter with a persistent and inquisitive nature, passionate about industry issues and policy challenges;
  • Open-minded and able to thrive in culturally diverse settings;
  • Native-level English proficiency or excellent speaking and writing skills in English.
