This Moulding Engineer is responsible for design, development, implementation, and ongoing support of plastic moulded commodities that support all of AbbVie’s products including devices. Serve as both a technical expert in moulding as well as a project manager for moulding projects that works regularly with R&D, operations, supply chain and suppliers.Are you intrigued? A snapshot of your key responsibilities as Principal Moulding Projects Engineer be:

  • Process design and development, tooling/automation design, procurement and qualification.
  • Knowledge of plastics processes, resins, tooling, Regulatory and ISO requirements a plus
  • Manage moulded commodities over life cycle including tactical and strategic activities to support ongoing business such as product, process, quality and cost improvement initiatives, supplier and resin changes, and obsolescence.
  • Troubleshoot moulding issues in conjunction with supplier and lead/support internal investigations as needed.
  • Work closely with moulding suppliers to ensure reliable supply of parts. Perform capacity analysis for moulds, presses and assembly automation and make recommendations for future investment.
  • Responsible for ensuring adherence to quality system through creation and update of specifications, metrology setup, design control and qualification, FMEA, or other as appropriate. Identify critical dimensions and work with suppliers to ensure proper process controls are in place.
  • Candidate must also have knowledge of the skills of mould-making which includes the knowledge of CNC equipment, Wire EDM’s, surface finishes, grinders and hand tools that are used in the build of a mould. Software knowledge should include the ability to be proficient in 3D programs such as Solidworks, ProE or AutoCad.
  • Oversees the process of the design review and build of moulds at tool vendors, FAT’s, DOE’s, dimensional analysis, define and agree any tool correction, and validation of mould.
  • Management of moulding suppliers to meet quality and cost objectives. Will manage approx. 15 to 20 suppliers.
  • Responsible to lead and project manage large / medium moulding projects across multiple sites
  • Ability to thoroughly document design decision history, test and observation activities in a formal manner using division document systems, project notes or formal test reports – Knowledge of six-sigma troubleshooting and lean manufacturing processes a plus
  • Travel requirements could be 30%

QualificationsSo, what do you need to do this role?
Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Plastics Engineering or technical discipline desired, or equivalent experience plus demonstrated competence
  • Must have a minimum of 7-10 years technical work experience with 2-3 years of plastic injection and/or blow moulding design and process support experience, preferably in the medical device industry.
  • 5+ years Project Management experience
  • Knowledge of plastics processes, resins, tooling required.
  • Knowledge of injection moulding equipment, inspection procedure and SPC analysis also strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of regulatory and ISO requirements preferred
  • Strong technical knowledge, ability to work and resolve complex problems.
  • Interacts well with diverse groups across corporation and maintains strong working relationships with internal and external collaborators.
  • Possesses interpersonal skills to negotiate and reconcile differences, while optimizing overall organizational goals

Expected salary: €72500 – 141000 per year
